As far as Planar IEMs go the PLA13s are the cheapest money can buy. These are just phenomenal pair that represents sound with the highest clarity, a crisp treble, and a thumpy low-end response. If you want to get your hand on a planar IEM, then these are the way to go.

RAGHAV SOMANI

The earbuds are also very comfortable; the shape felt just right for my ears and they are also very light. The silicone ear tips are soft and create a great seal.

My FINAL VERDICT

I’ll try and include any information I think stood out during my experiences.

In the first place, I would like to mention that it is a Planar Magnetic IEM, which means that instead of having a Dynamic Driver, it has a Planar Magnetic Driver. (You can google it, if you want to know more about Planar Magnetic Drivers)

I connected it directly to my POCO F1's AUX Port without any additional DAC. As a result of this initial listening session, I have learned the following about these IEMs.

• BASS: - The Bass is PUNCHY, its quick to play, and doesn’t linger too long in the sound field. It has good fast attack, and short decay. (Probably because of its Driver) Bass is not overwhelmed, just on the sweet spot. It doesn’t lead to a less-detailed sound that muddles other details.

• MIDS: - There is not too much of a dip in the Mids. They are smooth and aren’t overpowered by the Bass & the treble complements them well… What I like the most about these IEMs that it has a good bass response WITHOUT killing the Mids.

• TREBLE: - The treble is nicely-rendered but is quiet above relaxed for the obvious reasons as it’s giving more details to the music. (There are large variations in the personal treble taste.) Treble is sparkly, it has a sharp and prominent zing to it. An impactful punch. It has a hint of grain and sparkle but it doesn’t mean that its Harsh or fatiguing… It’s really well tuned

• Sound Stage:- (The sound stage is basically an imaginary 3D space created by headphones.) and the Sound stage of these planar IEMs is…. Bingo! Its really a treasure and “The Clincher for me”
• Instrument Separations: - The instrument separation on these IEMs is phenomenal you can easily hear each and every instrument in a music. Thanks to the Details.

Add On:
The sense of separation between the left and right channels of audio. Different from soundstage. A natural image will have a smooth progression between left, center, and right. The overall width of the field seems narrow and close to your head. You can literally imagine that where the instrument in playing in the stereo channel.

They could be better in terms of comfort. The silicone ear tips are of acceptable quality. It will not cause you any significant discomfort.

The microphone should not be a deal breaker for you because I doubt anyone reading this will buy these IEMs primarily for calling. However, if this is a concern for you, there are far superior earphones on the market. You should definitely go with Sony.

These IEMs may be the best upgrade if you are new to the world of Planar. That's all for now, folks!

It’s really hard to describe Sound quality in words. But I’ve done my best. I hope you find my feedback useful.

Thanks a lot for your detailed and genuine feedback, we're glad that you have such positive thoughts about the product and we'll share your thoughts with the brand as well. It'll also help our fellow customers to make the right choice!

CCA - PLA13 - too much treble!

I haven't been much of an audiophile, though I have a background in music and have spent time performing as a frontman for a rock band.

I bought the CCA - PLA13 along with the iFi GO Link DAC. My usual headphones are either Apple Airpods or Gaming Headphones while I am gaming. I expected a big improvement using the gear and listening to lossless on Apple Music.

I don't know what to say - I didn't enjoy the experience! It is true I could hear some extra details louder with the above setup and hi res audio, but I felt without any EQ the default sound signature was too sharp, noisy and distorted. Especially vocals and hi-hats. Vocals sound like nails on a chalkboard because the treble and overall hi-end is too pronounced (Lewis Capaldi's new album for example). Hi-hats are brought to the foreground along with cymbals but that makes them too loud and just drowns out everything else (any Dream Theater song for example). One can hardly hear basslines, there is no punch (When the Levee Breaks by Led Zeppelin has an iconic drum intro but with this setup it sounds underwhelming).

Songs are carefully mixed in the studio -- I've been there I know how the process works. Some instruments like for example the hi-hat and cymbals should NOT be in the foreground. These are meant to be like seasonings to a dish, kept at the back of the tastebuds not to be overpowering but to add flavour only. This setup and 'hi-res' just brings all mids and highs and makes them LOUD. Ask any guy in a band, it's the drums and the bass that provide and make the groove in any song. But with this setup all I hear is loud cymbals, hi hats, screechy vocals.

What am I doing wrong here? I WANT to like hi-res and these fancy IEMs. But they're just killing my music experience!

A view from not a tryhard audiophile but avid music enjoyer.

Bass: punchy but not overdone. good sweet spot.
Mids: Sounds clear.
highs: not harsh but still very evident.
The instrument separation is really good, the sound stage is wide.

Get a DAC if you want a higher volume.
I am using it every day on my pc for music and gaming, does good. You can locate footsteps. (Using a Corsair 7.1 Card if that helps)

Btw something that's looked over, the mic that it comes with is actually pretty decent.
My left ear starts to hurt a bit after hours of usage. My right side's ear tip Idk it's loose or something but it sometimes comes out of its own and even sometimes when I take my earphone out IT STAYS in my ear.

Anyways, the Music I listen to primarily is Hip hop, R&B Hip hop, Techno, House, and Some old indies. Your mileage may vary.

6/10 | money well wasted.

5 on 5 for details

This is a bang for buck, upgraded from KZ ZEX, the details you can hear in this iem are amazing, this being an Planar, beats many of those in dual driver triple driver setup in the 5K range. a must try. Beware these planar need more to drive so unless you have those LG DAC phones you will be needing a DAC to unleash its full potential

Hey Jangsen, thanks a lot for this lovely review and we are glad you are enjoying it! Keep the music playing.

CCA pla 13

Didn't met my expectations. It's too harsh . Treble is very high causing head ache can't listen in for continuous for even 1 hour . Burn in process done . Using it with my fiio btr7. Mids are super perfect .
If it have a little bass boost then it will be a perfect iem for me . Next wanna purchase a better iem ( not a bullet shaped ) that gives a good sound signature that can listen music for continuous 5 hours without any harsh sound to the ears . Budget under 10k
Thanks for the entire team of headphone zone .
